Scientific Breakthrough:

The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has partnered with Serpin Pharma, Inc. to explore and develop breakthrough skincare ingredients advancing longevity. Research on the efficacy of mitigating harmful inflammation and enhancing cell resiliency will be used to address skin irritation, aging, and sensitivity. The partnership builds on ELC's previous investments in longevity science, biotechnology, and fermentation. It is also part of ELC's newly unveiled Beauty Reimagined strategic vision, aiming to help the company return to profitability.

Regulations & Compliance:

On 24 January 2025, the European Commission updated the Borderline Manual on Cosmetic Products, a non-binding guide for manufacturers and authorities on EU Cosmetics Regulation. The latest version adds a section on vials and ampoules, clarifying that injectable products cannot be classified as cosmetics, while those intended for external use with cosmetic functions may qualify. Company Update:

Sensient Technologies Corp., a global supplier for color and personal care applications, has acquired Biolie, a French manufacturer specialized in white biotech and natural ingredient extraction. The acquisition aims to enhance Sensient's active color offerings and production capabilities. Sensient states that Biolie's unique, solvent-free enzymatic extraction method for natural ingredients aligns well with Sensient's expertise. As a worldwide producer and marketer of colors, flavors, and other specialty ingredients, Sensient employs cutting-edge technologies and a strong global supply chain to create tailored solutions.

Sustainability Update:

Gattefossé is expanding its upcycling efforts under its CSR strategy "Gatt'Up&Act", repurposing waste into high-quality bioactives. Over the past two years, the company has developed Eyeglorious™ and Noxifense™ from underutilized sea buckthorn leaves. Sourced from a family-owned organic orchard in Quebec, these leaves are collected during the trees' annual September pruning, which also supports berry production for food.
