Scientific Breakthrough:

A new startup led by former Oxford scientists is set to shake up skin & sun protection with LipoxErase (palmitoyl tetrapeptide-114), an anti-ageing peptide that neutralizes lipid peroxides before they can damage skin cells, DNA, and proteins. Patented across Europe, the UK, Switzerland, and China, this innovation follows six years of intensive R&D and promises to be a “highly disruptive” force in skincare.

Regulations & Compliance:

Scotland is set to tighten safety rules for non-surgical cosmetic treatments. A new Non-surgical Cosmetic Procedures Bill will regulate where and how these procedures are offered, requiring treatments to take place only at licensed premises with approved standards. Full details will be finalized as the bill moves through Parliament, with enforcement expected within the next year.

Dsm-firmenich and biotech innovator Inscripta are joining forces to create a novel, biotech-powered well-aging skin care ingredient—alogn with other sustainable innovations. The collaboration reflects the growing momentum of biotech in beauty, paving the way for more efficient and eco-conscious ingredient development.

Sustainability Update:

BASF is switching its entire European amines production to 100% renewable electricity starting this month, across sites in Germany and Belgium. Used widely in cosmetics—from hair color to face powder—amines will now come with a lower carbon footprint, cutting about 188,000 tons of CO2 annually by 2025. That’s an average 8% drop in product carbon footprint across BASF’s amines portfolio.
