AI in Beauty:

More small businesses in the U.S. are adopting generative AI tools like Google Gemini and ChatGPT to streamline operations and improve customer experiences. According to Jordon Crenshaw, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, nearly 60% of small business owners are now using these tools, helping them streamline operations and even source skincare ingredients less affected by tariffs, lowering costs for consumers. Still, challenges remain: 77% of small businesses in New York state say inconsistent AI regulations are a major barrier to adoption.

Scientific Breakthrough:

Scientists at San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid have reported promising results in mice for a potential treatment for androgenetic alopecia, better known as pattern hair loss. While the findings have not yet been replicated in humans, the study – highlighted by the New York Post as a "breakthrough" – could bring new hope to millions seeking solutions for baldness.

Regulations & Compliance:

The FDA has unveiled their new Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) Public Dashboard for Cosmetic Products. This interactive tool offers real-time access to reports of adverse events linked to cosmetics such as moisturizers, shampoos, hair dyes, and more. Updated daily, the dashboard provides transparency and empowers the public to help identify safety signals under the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 (MoCRA)

Company Update:

Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, part of Clariant, has set ambitious 2030 sustainability goals for its lecithin platform, aiming for 100% non-GMO soy derivatives and zero deforestation. At the same time, the company is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Beracaβ„’ Socio-biodiversity Enhancement Program, which now supports 14.000 families across 36 Brazilian communities. Both initiatives highlight the company's commitment to responsible sourcing and environmental stewardship in the cosmetics industry.

Sustainability Update:

PlasticFree has made its global database of sustainable materials free-to-access, offering brands and designers thousands of validated plastic alternatives along with expert analysis and case studies. First launched in 2023 and already partnered with Unilever and Reckitt, the platform will now also integrate with AI systems to combat misinformation and greenwashing, helping the cosmetics industry source trusted, science-backed solutions for packaging innovation.
